I’ve been thinking about the future of campaign planning, and everything points toward this hybrid model where AI generates insights but humans make the final calls. In theory, that sounds reasonable. In practice, I’m not sure it’s actually more efficient.
Here’s my dilemma: when I run campaigns purely on AI insights, they’re… okay. Decent performance, predictable results. When I bring in human experts to validate or challenge the AI outputs, the process takes longer, there’s more debate, and I have to manage competing perspectives. But the final campaigns do seem to perform better.
The tricky part is doing this at scale across different markets. Getting expert input from someone who deeply understands Russian market dynamics and also gets US market nuances—and incorporating that alongside AI analysis—creates this really complex workflow. I’m not sure if I’m gaining strategic depth or just adding bureaucracy.
I’m trying to figure out the actual ROI of this hybrid approach. When you’re working with AI predictions and expert input simultaneously, how do you actually structure that workflow so it improves outcomes without just becoming slower? What’s the sweet spot between automation and human judgment?
This is the exact question that matters. From my DTC experience, I’ve found that hybrid workflows only work if you architect them correctly.
Here’s what I’ve found actually improves outcomes: you need a decision framework that takes both AI and human input but doesn’t require consensus on everything.
My process:

- Experts review specific high-stakes decisions (strategy)
- AI handles execution and monitoring (scale)
Not every decision needs human input. Use humans on the decisions where expertise actually changes the outcome. Use AI everywhere else.
Example: AI predicts which creator will drive highest engagement. That’s low-stakes; we trust the algorithm. AI recommends market-specific positioning for a campaign. That’s high-stakes; an expert reviews and possibly challenges it.
The efficiency gain comes from being selective about where you slow down. Without a decision framework, you end up having humans review everything, and yeah, that’s slower.
Are you currently scoring decisions by strategic importance, or are you treating all AI inputs the same way?
One more thing on the cross-market problem: I’ve found that expert input is most valuable when they’re calibrating the AI, not just validating it.
Example: US market expert says, “AI is underweighting the importance of platform authenticity for this audience.” That’s feedback that improves the model for future campaigns, not just this one.
If your expert-AI collaboration is just back-and-forth on individual campaigns, you’re burning time. If the experts are actively improving how the AI works, you’re building long-term capability.
Have you built feedback loops where expert input actually calibrates your AI models over time?
I’ve built something similar in our company as we’ve scaled across markets. The key insight: hybrid workflows only work if the AI and human experts are actually talking to each other, not just passing data back and forth.
What I mean: our experts don’t just validate AI outputs. They challenge assumptions, ask why the model is recommending what it’s recommending, and suggest adjustments.
That back-and-forth is slower initially, but it’s also where better decisions come from. And over time, it gets faster because the experts and AI start aligning on what matters.
For cross-market work, I found that the biggest value from experts wasn’t validation—it was catching blind spots in how the AI was thinking about different markets. An expert would say, “AI is right for the US market, but this approach won’t work for Russian audiences because…”

Our agency has built a full hybrid model, and I can tell you it’s worth it if you architect it right.
Here’s what matters: (1) AI handles predictive work and candidate generation. (2) Strategists handle positioning, creative direction, and market-specific decisions. (3) A feedback loop where strategy informs how we use AI going forward.
The efficiency comes from being really clear about what each part does best. AI is better at pattern matching at scale. Humans are better at strategic positioning and creative judgment.
What would be slow: having humans do pattern matching or AI do strategy. That’s using the wrong tool.
Some specific metrics from our operation:

- Planning time: about 15% longer than pure AI, about 30% shorter than pure human
- Staff satisfaction: way higher when people feel they’re expanding AI capability, not being replaced by it

When brands pitch me with just AI analysis, it feels cold and metrics-driven. When they combine data with human understanding of my specific audience and creative style, it feels collaborative.
The hybrid approach actually creates better partnerships because people are involved at each stage.
My two cents: the efficiency question is less about speed and more about quality of partnership. If the process is longer but results in better alignment and more interesting collaboration, that’s worth it.
That said, brands absolutely need to communicate clearly: AI says you’re a fit for X reason, but strategically we think you’re valuable because Y. That combination tells me someone’s really thought it through.
