Using cross-market case studies to enter the US market—what actually stuck for you?

I spent way too much money on consultants to teach me about US market strategy. Looking back, I could have just studied what was already working.

Instead of hiring a US market consultant for $5k+ per month, I did something simpler: I dove into the bilingual forum on this platform and studied case studies from people who’d actually gone from Russia to US markets successfully.

I found three detailed breakdowns of businesses that had done exactly this transition. Not theoretical consulting content—actual practitioners talking through what worked, what didn’t, and why.

Here’s what changed my approach:

  1. US creators have higher rate expectations, but they’re more reliable on delivery. This was the biggest surprise. I was used to negotiating rates down with Russian creators. US creators had pricing, they stuck to it, but they also delivered consistently. Totally different dynamic.

  2. Platform algorithm knowledge matters way more than I thought. The case studies talked about how TikTok and Instagram algorithm work differently in the US versus Russia. Sounds obvious, but it meant campaign targeting, content cadence, even the type of creator (follower count ranges) needed to shift. I would’ve gotten this wrong without that knowledge.

One thing I’d structure differently though: instead of reading case studies passively, I’d extract the core hypotheses they’re testing and run small experiments against them. They found CPM was 3x higher? Test it with your own spend. They found creator reliability was better? Build that into your vendor evaluation.

Case studies are good maps, but you still need to drive the terrain yourself to understand it.

Where I see people go wrong: they copy the case study exactly instead of understanding the principle and adapting it. US market’s moving fast enough that direct copying usually fails by the time you execute it.

The replication question is the right one to ask. I’ve been tracking this—comparing stated outcomes in case studies with measured outcomes when I’ve tried similar approaches.

Honestly? About 60% of the core metrics replicate reasonably well (audience size needed, budget allocation, timeline). About 30% replicate but need adjustment (exact creator type, platform mix). About 10% don’t replicate at all (usually specific brand positioning or market timing things).

So yes, patterns hold. Just not perfectly. The practice is: identify the pattern, run it at 30% scale first, measure, then adjust.

If you’re trying to replicate, I’d make sure you’re measuring the same metrics they used. That’s where alignment usually breaks down.
