We’re at that point where we need to test UGC concepts with Russian and US audiences before committing budget to full-scale production. But I’m genuinely unsure how deep to go with validation.
Right now, we’re considering three approaches:
- Minimal testing: Run a small batch of UGC with real audiences (maybe 3-5 creators per market), get real data, iterate fast.
- Medium validation: Use focus groups + survey respondents in both markets to validate messaging before creators even start filming.
- Heavy pre-testing: Develop wireframes, run extended surveys, get detailed feedback on every element before production begins.
Each approach has trade-offs. Minimal testing is fast and cheap, but we might miss cultural nuances. Heavy pre-testing takes months and costs, but reduces risk. Medium feels right, but I’m not sure it’s actually catching the right insights.
The complication: when you’re working across two completely different markets, what resonates in focus group feedback might not actually perform in the real feed. And cultural blind spots are hard to catch even when you have people from both markets in the room.
I’d rather learn from people who’ve already made this call: What’s your actual validation process before scaling UGC to two markets? Are you getting validation signals from creators themselves, or from target audiences? How much pre-testing do you actually need before you trust the playbook enough to scale?
