i’m asking because i’m getting paranoid about something that happened last month, and i want to know if this is a common pitfall or if i’m just being anxious.
we published a case study about a really successful influencer campaign—solid numbers, good story, we were proud of it. shared it in both russian and english versions to relevant audiences.
then I got a message from a us partner saying something like “this is great, but your numbers seem really inflated compared to industry benchmarks on our side.” and i realized: the metrics are strong, but what’s normal in the russian market is genuinely above-average in the us market. not because we did anything wrong, but because market conditions, creator rates, audience sizes, and platform algorithms are just different.
so now that case study is sitting there, and i’m worried it’s either:
- Making us look unrealistic to us audiences (who might think we’re exaggerating)
- Or accidentally setting false expectations for future partners
i added some context about market differences, but it felt defensive and clunky.
has this happened to you? when you’re documenting a win that looks exceptional in one market but just “normal” in another, how do you present it without losing credibility in either place? do you adjust the narrative, add benchmarks, or something else?
