I’m at a decision point. I’ve been validating my product concept in the US market for about a month using some existing networks and small tests, and the feedback has been positive. But I’m not sure if “positive” is enough to justify committing real budget—like $20k+ to influencer campaigns and paid media.
I’ve seen two camps in other founders I know: one group says “you need 6 months of validation and strong proof before you spend real money,” and another says “validation is never perfect, just ship it and learn from real data.”
The problem is I don’t know what I’m looking for. What does real validation actually look like? Is it a certain conversion rate? A certain number of qualified leads? Influencer interest? Partner readiness? How do I know when I have enough data to feel confident?
I also don’t have unlimited runway, so burning money on the wrong strategy early feels genuinely risky. But I also know that waiting for perfect data is a trap—you never get it.
I’m curious: for people who are entering new markets, what actually gave you the confidence to write that first big check? What was the minimum viable data that told you it was worth risking?
