I’ve been managing campaigns for both Russian and US audiences for about eight months now, and the biggest headache I keep running into is exactly this: how do I prove that the money I’m spending on bloggers is actually working?
Here’s my problem. I’ll run a campaign with a Russian micro-influencer, get decent engagement, attribute some sales to it. Then I’ll do the same with a US creator at a similar price point, and the results look completely different—not because the strategy is different, but because I’m measuring everything in different currencies, different platforms, different customer journeys.
I know the issue is partly attribution. We’re tracking link clicks, but half our audience is finding us through organic search after seeing content. We’re looking at immediate conversions, but some people take weeks to actually buy. And when you’re working across markets, suddenly you’ve got timezone delays, payment processing differences, and varying levels of platform transparency.
What’s been helping me recently is realizing that I need to actually standardize my measurement framework before I standardize anything else. I started tracking everything through UTM parameters religiously, segmenting by traffic source and market, and—this is key—I stopped trying to attribute 100% of revenue perfectly. Instead, I look at incremental lift and compare it against baseline performance.
But I’m still guessing on a lot of this. Some of the creators I work with send me screenshots of analytics that don’t always match what I’m seeing on my end. Others are vague about reach. And when I have to report to leadership about why we spent $50k on influencers and only got $120k in attributed revenue, suddenly I’m scrambling to explain why that’s actually decent when you factor in brand awareness, repeat purchases, and…“—I pause—”…honestly, I’m not even sure what else I should be factoring in.
Has anyone here built a consistent ROI measurement system that actually works across different markets and influencer sizes? I’m especially curious about how you’re handling the variance between platforms and currencies. What metrics are you actually trusting?
