I’m planning to launch into the US market through influencer partnerships, and I realize I have almost no framework for actually vetting people. Back in Russia, I built relationships over time, so I had context. Here, I’m looking at profiles and metrics, but honestly, follower count and engagement rate feel like surface-level signals.
I’ve seen campaigns that looked perfect on paper—right audience size, decent engagement, right niche—completely belly-flop because the influencer wasn’t aligned with what we’re actually about. And I’ve seen smaller profiles punch way above their weight because there was real trust between them and their followers.
So I’m trying to understand: what are the differences between an influencer who has an audience and an influencer who influences that audience? What questions are worth asking that go deeper than “what’s your average engagement rate” and “have you worked with similar brands before”?
And practically speaking—how do you validate partnerships quickly before committing real budget? I don’t have six months to build relationships organically, but I also don’t want to burn money on the wrong people. What’s your actual vetting process?
