We’re trying to understand the real impact of our influencer campaigns across Russia and US, and attribution is a nightmare.
Here’s the problem: a customer in the US sees content from a Russian-based creator, clicks, comes back three days later, sees an ad, then makes a purchase. How much credit do we give the influencer vs. the ad? When you multiply this across dozens of creators, multiple markets, different time zones, and various touchpoints, it gets absurdly complex.

Compare to baseline: What’s your baseline CAC across all channels? If influencer CAC is lower, the model is working. If it’s higher, revisit the weightings.
For cross-market/cross-language problem:
Have a simple rule: “All creators must use the link we provide. If they don’t, we won’t pay them.” Sounds harsh, but it’s the only way to get consistency. When payment is on the line, discipline improves.
Alternatively: for creators who genuinely struggle with technical setup, have a designated person handle it for them. Budget 1-2 hours per month for this. It’s worth it for data integrity.
Shared analytics/databases: Yes, this helps. If you can access case studies from similar campaigns (especially in a bilingual community platform), you can calibrate your attribution weights against their experience. “Other teams using this model saw 2.8-month payback with business customers; we’re seeing 3.2 months.” That tells you if your model is in the right ballpark.

Here’s what I’ve seen work: teams that create a dead-simple creator guidance document. One page. Says:

- ‘Why? So we can measure your impact accurately and pay you fairly for it.’

- This takes 120+ hours and only makes sense at $500K+ spend/year
For cross-market complexity: Here’s what I’d do:
- Run the same model in both markets independently
- Keep model parameters consistent (don’t weight US different from Russia)
- Compare results: if influencer CAC is 25% in US and 30% in Russia, but distribution of customer LTV is similar, your model is consistent
- That consistency is what matters, not perfection
For operator error: Framework > willpower. Don’t rely on creators remembering. Build an automated link-generation system. Zapier + Airtable can do this for ~$150/month.
Shared data resources: Yes, access to case studies from other teams helps calibration. If 10 teams using similar models see 2.5-3.5 month payback, and you’re seeing 2.8, you’re probably in the right zone. If you’re seeing 6 months, something’s wrong with your model or your campaign effectiveness.
How much influencer spend/year are we talking about? That determines which tier makes sense.
From a creator perspective: the attribution models that actually work are the ones that don’t make my life harder.
When a brand asks me to use a specific UTM code, I will if it’s easy. Copy-paste? Yes. Remembering some complex rule? Probably not.
Also, I should know upfront: am I getting paid based on clicks, purchases, or brand lift? That changes how I brief my audience. If it’s clicks, I’m hyper-focused on the call-to-action. If it’s purchases, I’m focused on credibility and ROI for the buyer. If it’s brand lift, I’m telling a story.
Brands that succeed with attribution are the ones that actually call creators after the campaign and say: “Hey, we saw X purchases came from your audience, thanks.” That feedback loop makes creators want to do better next time.
Also be real: not all my audience converts. Some are just fans. Some will buy in 6 months. Some never will. A 30-day attribution window probably misses a lot. But I get that you need a line somewhere.
I’d respect a brand more if they said: “We use 30-day click attribution, we know it’s not perfect, but it’s consistent and lets us work together fairly.” That honesty beats complex explanations.
One request: if you’re tracking creators by UTM code, you’re probably trackinghow much each creator drives. Please use that data fairly when deciding who to work with next time. Don’t just assume your “top performer” was the only one who worked—all of us probably contributed something.

Cross-market: Run identical models in both regions. Track variance. If Russia shows 20% higher CAC than US but same LTV, investigate why (is it creator quality, brief clarity, audience fit?). That investigation is usually worth more than the attribution optimization itself.
Operator error solution: We use short codes (like “ALEX_INFLUENCER_001”) that are branded and memorable, making them easier for creators to share without messing up. And we enforce it at payment time: “If we can’t track your link, we need proof of sales another way before we pay you.”
That policy alone makes compliance jump to 95%.
