Hey everyone, I wanted to share something that’s been working incredibly well for us lately, and I’m curious if others have had similar experiences.
So here’s the context: we’re a Russian-rooted brand trying to break into the US market, and our traditional influencer partnerships weren’t moving the needle the way we’d hoped. The costs were high, the engagement felt forced, and honestly, our audience could tell we were trying too hard.
Then we shifted our entire approach to focus on user-generated content co-created with micro and mid-tier creators. Instead of paying for sponsored posts, we started collaborating with US-based creators on actual creative projects—giving them creative freedom, real feedback, and actual partnership vs. one-off transactions.
The difference has been night and day. Not only did our engagement rates jump, but the content felt authentic. People were actually sharing it, commenting, and most importantly, converting. We’ve been documenting everything—what works, what doesn’t, which types of creators drive the most qualified traffic—and I’ve learned so much about what resonates across markets.
I think the key was building a real bilingual workflow where Russian brand insights met American creative sensibilities. It forced us to think differently about messaging and stopped us from just translating campaigns directly.
I’d love to hear: are any of you working with UGC creators or doing cross-market collaborations? What’s been your biggest challenge—finding the right creators, negotiating deals, measuring ROI, or something else entirely?
This is a solid foundational approach, and I appreciate the focus on authenticity. A few strategic questions, though:
First, how are you defining and measuring ‘authentic audience engagement’? Are you tracking sentiment analysis, share rates, time-on-content, or something else? And critically—how are you attributing this engagement back to business outcomes? I see a lot of brands chase engagement vanity metrics without connecting dots to retention, LTV, or repeat purchase behavior.
Second, you mentioned a ‘bilingual workflow.’ Can you break down what that looks like operationally? Are you finding that creators naturally understand your Russian market context, or are you having to do significant translation work on both messaging and cultural nuance?
Third—and this matters for scaling—how are you managing creative approval and brand guidelines across multiple creators without bottlenecking the process? This is often where the authenticity-at-scale plays fall apart.
I’d be interested in seeing your attribution model if you’re willing to share it.
