I’ve been creating UGC and working with brands for a few years now, and most of my collabs have come through DMs, referrals, or cold pitches to brands I follow. It works, but it’s scattered—I never really know what I’m missing.
Recently I started looking at the bilingual hub on the platform, and I noticed there’s actual matchmaking functionality. It shows brands that might be interested in creators like me, and creators that brands might want to collaborate with. The idea is clever: instead of both sides cold-reaching, the platform surfaces potentially compatible matches.
I tested it. I filled out my creator profile thoroughly (my content style, my audience, past brand work, rates), and within two weeks I got matched with a Russian beauty brand looking for UGC creators. We actually closed a deal.
But here’s what I’m wondering: is this a real alternative to traditional outreach, or is it just another feature that sounds good but doesn’t actually move the needle? And for cross-market matching specifically—is the quality as good as matching within a single market, or does the algorithm get confused with cultural differences and audience behaviors across countries?
It’s real. I’ve gotten several solid brand deals through platform matching that I would never have found on my own. The difference is that brands are looking for creators by criteria—“UGC, lifestyle, 50k-200k followers, US-based audience”—rather than browsing Instagram and hoping. So the matches are actually filtered.
For cross-market matching specifically: yes, it’s different. Russian brands have different expectations than US brands. They might want different content styles, faster turnaround, different usage rights. But the platform can encode those differences if it’s built right.
What’s worked for me:
- Be very specific in my profile about my content style and what I charge
- Update case studies regularly so brands see actual results I’ve driven
- Respond quickly to matches—if a brand reaches out through the hub, they’re already interested, so dragging feet kills the momentum
I’d say 40% of my brand deals now come through platform matching. It’s not 100% of my pipeline, but it’s meaningful.
From the agency side: the matching is real if you’re not picky, and that’s both the upside and downside.
Upside: I can source creators fast. Instead of spending a week finding 10 creators, I plug in specs and get 30 options. That’s powerful.
Downside: the quality of matches depends entirely on how honest creators are in their profiles. If a creator overstates their engagement or lies about their audience demographics, the match algorithm will surface them anyway.
For cross-market matching: I’ve had good success matching Russian creators to US brands. But it requires clearer briefing because the creator might not understand US brand expectations by default. We usually do an extra brief call to make sure everyone’s aligned.
Honest take: I use the hub for 30-40% of my sourcing. The rest is still manual research, relationship-based. But that 30-40% is faster than traditional cold outreach.
The matching works, but I’d caution on over-relying on it. It’s probabilistic—the algorithm can match on surface-level compatibility (follower count, audience age), but it can’t match on brand fit or creative alignment without more manual review.
For cross-market matching specifically, the variance increases. What performs well with US audiences might not resonate with Russian audiences. Cultural nuances, content expectations, payment models—all different. The algorithm can’t bake all that in.
What I’d recommend: use matching for rapid filtering, not for final selection. Match gives you 30 potential creators. You review top 10 based on (1) content quality, (2) past brand fit, (3) audience composition. Then you do 5-minute calls with top 3. That’s when you actually know if it’s a fit.
Time saved: yes, significant. But it’s not a replacement for strategic judgment.
Если creator только работал с Russian beauty brands, matching его с US fashion brand будет guess.
Если нет—либо profile оптимизировать, либо matching not the right channel.
Для cross-market matching: я знаю creators которые успешно работали и с Russian brands и с US brands. US бренды хотят более creative, long-form content.
Даже если matching сёрфейсит тебя, потом ты нужно make effort to построить relationship—быстрый ответ, quality work, follow-up.
Honestly?
И creators которые matched с нами были тоже clear о своих rates и что они can do.
